Flowserve Corporation (NYSE:FLS) is a leading provider of flow control products and services for the global infrastructure markets. Last month, installation of Flowserve pumps began at the Mittelsbüren Combined Cycle Plant (CCP) located near Bremen, Germany. All major pumps in the 440MW gas turbine power plant are supplied by Flowserve, including: high-pressure, ring section boiler feedwater pumps; vertical, double-case, multistage, condensate extraction pumps; and vertical, mixed flow, circulating water pumps.

The high-efficiency CCP will serve four German power utilities when completed. A Madrid-based company, Cobra Instalaciones y Servicios S.A, is overseeing the balance-of-pant, civil works, and overall construction.

"We are proud Cobra has entrusted Flowserve to supply all major pump services for their newest combined cycle plant in Bremen," says Jim Quain, president of Flowserve Engineered Pump Operations. "Our overall combination of power industry experience, high-efficiency pumping equipment, and on-the-ground technical support offers excellent value for the long-term operation of the plant."

Germany has become a world leader in wind power production since the continued addition of wind turbine capacity to the country’s electricity grid. As an intermittent energy source, standby power generation is necessary to supplement the wind power and provide reliable and continuous electricity to residents and businesses in this northern region of Germany. The gas turbine combined cycle technology used in the Breman facility is ideal for this task, providing flexible and responsive alternate energy.
