Chromatography requires precision, quality, and reproducibility. Lewa’s new low pressure chromatography system delivers on these requirements. The EcoPrime low-pressure chromatography system is comprised of leading technologies such as Lewa intellidrive and diaphragam metering pumps.  Specifically designed for Chromatography applications, EcoPrime offers batch-to-batch reproducibility in GMP manufacturing of biopharmaceuticals by utilizing high-accuracy pump systems that significantly enhance the yield of the product.

The pump system is notable within its product family for its extremely precise flow control between 0.03 to 60 liters per minute. It allows for an unrivaled dynamic flow rate range, minimal pulsation, and low holdup volume, which ultimately allows for a better product yield, purity, and safety during purification. Because this new pump technology is so efficient, both production time and the costs of validation in the entire production cycle are dramatically reduced.

The servo drive and pumps from Lewa operate with the highest precision and allow high reproducibility of the adjustable parameters. When you compare its functionality to other systems, it is easy to see that this new pump technology offers a considerably higher accuracy rate over the entire flow rate range while being covered by its Intellidrive technology. Each Ecoprime system offers an adjustment range of 1:150 or more and can handle the flow rate of up to three individual conventional process systems. This offers reduced investment costs and reduction of valuable floor space, making it ideally suited for use in cost-intensive GMP classrooms.

In the previous year, a license agreement with ChromaCon AG was sought to extend the Ecoprime batch chromatography platform. It applies to the use of Capture SMB technology at pilot and GMP scale for continuous purification. This allows various process principles, such as batch or multi-column chromatography, Capture SMB, and MCSGP, to be undertaken with the same system platform. The new contract allows the Lewa to accelerate the development of modern cost-reducing purification processes for the manufacturers of biopharmaceuticals at GMP scale.
