Quattroflow Single-Use Pumps Minimize Particle Contamination

Quattroflow, a PSG Dover company known for its positive displacement quaternary diaphragm pumps, has recently announced its Single-Use Quaternary Diaphragm Pump. The diaphragm pumps have four pistons and are designed to help eliminate particle contamination in biopharmaceutical applications. The single-use pump is especially effective at handling of expensive and sensitive liquids without risk of contamination, making it the ideal choice for many biopharmaceutical companies.

The pump manufacturer recently commissioned a third-party test to verify its pump’s ability to minimize generation of particles. The test featured a comparison between the Quattroflow QF150SU model pump and a peristaltic pump that was using a pharma grade pumping hose. Both pumps were used in an eight-hour continuous recirculation of liquid through a 12μm filter at approximately 100 L/hr (26.4 gph).

Although filter membranes for the peristaltic pump showed 2 Mio particles with sizes between 6.1 and 12.7μm, no identifiable particles were generated during the operation of the peristaltic pump. In addition, no identifiable particles were generated during the operation of the Quattroflow pump either. These promising test results show that the Single-Use Quaternary Diaphragm Pump can eliminate particle generation and subsequent contamination of the pumped fluid. All Quattroflow pumps are suitable for optimizing the handling of expensive and sensitive liquids in biopharmaceutical-manufacturing operations.

In addition to minimizing particle contamination, Quattroflow single-use pumps also hasten the production process while delivering product purity and sterility.
