More information about canned motor pumps:

Most canned motor pumps are centrifugal pumps, and are usually single stage end suction type. A canned motor pump is designed so that there is no leakage of the fluid being pump. The pumping mechanism is contained in a hermetically sealed chamber that allows no leakage from the piping itself, and the piping is usually made of a thick, heavy-duty material. Canned motor pumps ideal for pumping radioactive coolants and aggressive liquid gases such as propane, Freon, or ammonia.
This makes canned motor pumps ideal for use in the nuclear power industry, in the chemical industry, and in any other area where the fluid can't come into contact with humans or the air.
